Hello to shakespearelovepoems, hello to all,
I like sonnet 116, because especially this poem allows us to think about different aspects of the meaning of "love". It is much more than the word "love" currently expresses, when reading it e.g. in a today- journal or hear it in many films. Many inner attitudes of human beings are part of love as it is described in this sonnet, e. g. confidence, responsibility, consistency, courage and many attributes, too.
The first sentence gives us already an impression about that, what Shakespeare might have thought, when he wrote the sonnet:"Let me not to the marriage of true minds/ Admit impediments, love is not love/ Which alters when it alteration finds, / Or bends with the remover to remove."
Perhaps a hint to another discussion in this forum: Have a look on: Plays Q+A- "Pericles Prince of Tyre and marriage" posted March 29. There are some thoughts about the meaning of "marriage", which are very interesting in connection with the word "marriage" in this sonnet, too, I think.

I think this is a very thoughtful and meaningful comment.
Love comes in many forms, and means so many different things.
Which is amply described by Shakespeare's sonnet 116
